A 20th century troubadour, Carlos Gardel was born in Toulouse and grew up in Argentina. He brought the tango out of South America. An innovator, he took it from the back streets and the brothels and put it on stage, including, in particular, the sung aspect. The words of the poets he revealed and his music went around the world, from Buenos Aires to Paris, Madrid, Rome and New York. A Latin lover and darling of the talking pictures, Gardel died tragically in 1935 in a plane crash in Medellin. Tango Gardel relates the mysterious life of this key figure in the music of the Rio de la Plata. Using original versions of his songs, the show takes us back in time to discover the sounds of the instruments associated with the birth of this genre.
