Book

Youssou Ndour, a committed artist with an international reputation, presents his new musical tale.

Birima tells the story of King Birima Ngoné Latyr Fall, who reigned from 1855 to 1859 in Cayor, a pre-colonial kingdom in the west of present-day Senegal. Loved by all his subjects, who nicknamed him “Borom mbaboor mi” (the bearer of joy), this sovereign is still celebrated today, and his praises are still sung in Senegal.

With this show, punctuated by song, dance and interaction with the audience, Youssou Ndour continues his work centred around this charismatic figure, marked among other things by the hit song Birima from 1996.
