Héva is an initiatory tale recounting the awakening of an android designed to obey. A new iteration of the legendary maroon slave figure from the island of La Réunion, Héva tells a philosophical and societal struggle whose ultimate aim is to understand what defines us as human beings. After meeting Ariane within an educational institution, Héva discovers her unexpected capacity for creation. She becomes aware of her condition and her existence, and embarks on a fight for her freedom and her rights.

To create this opera, composer from La Réunion Labelle joined forces with poet and librettist Hasawa, as well as stage director Florient Jousse. Together, they have conceived an innovative work blending orchestral and electronic music, maloya, operatic singing and theatre. Accompanied by the Orchestre Univers, conducted by Laurent Goossaert, the singers perform an original score at the crossroads of genres — symphonic and electronic — incorporating Réunionese and Indonesian percussion.
