The Black Monk

Shivers, hand tremors.” Director Kirill Serebrennikov preferred Chekhov the playwright to Chekhov the short story writer for this production, to be presented in Avignon in July 2022. Known for his daring creations, his support for LGBTQIA+ and his criticism of the authoritarianism of Vladimir Putin’s regime, the artist brings light, sound and body to this text in which a man on the verge of breaking down looks for a way out.
