Biography

Has been nominated for two Tony Awards for his book of The Light in the Piazza (music & lyrics by Adam Guettel) and for his play Prelude to a Kiss. He is also author of the plays Missing Persons, Reckless, Blue Window, God’s Heart, The Dying Gaul, Stranger, Small Tragedy (Obie Award), The Singing Forest, Prayer for My Enemy and The Lying Lesson. Screenplays include Blue Window, Longtime Companion (Sundance Award), Reckless, The Secret Lives of Dentists (NY Film Critics Award). Most recently, he wrote the book for the new musical King Kong, which is receiving its world premiere production in Melbourne, Australia.
