I also know that it is the French cultural exception that allowed my rap to move forward. There have indeed been antagonisms, forms of stigmatisation… But my French culture, my French rap, my Francophonie it is in France that I learned them!
Youssoupha
This concert is, first and foremost, an encounter between a rapper, a pianist, a choir, and an orchestra, conducted by Olivier Koundouno. It is also a meeting point for several musical styles: rap, gospel, and what is known as “Classical” music. Carried by the socially engaged texts of the Franco-Congolese rapper Youssoupha, the choristers and instrumentalists bring to life the arrangements crafted by the conductor, Olivier Koundouno.
At the crossroads of film music and grand opera, yet without abandoning anything of rap, with sampling aplenty, the composer and arranger has crafted an original score, free of pre-recorded sequences, deejay or rhythm section such as drums and bass, all the better to let the rubato to emerge, with phrasing in the limelight.. And all that without even mentioning Manu Sauvage on the keyboard! A plethora of ingredients mixed together for this… experience!
