They have both proved for a long time that they have a taste for encounters. On stage, for a festival, an invitation, an encore or for a whole tour, Angélique Kidjo and Alexandre Tharaud have this desire to go towards other artists, other horizons, where they are not expected. They performed an unforgettable cover of Charles Aznavour’s “Emmenez-moi” in the Basilica of Saint-Denis in the autumn of 2020, which will make them want to go further. La chanson française is at the heart of this gathering, with its infinite repertoire, its texts, its melodies that we love irrationally because they remind us of somewhere or someone, its rhymes anchored in our own history. On stage, this meeting can be a little more than a recital, because through the songs chosen, something is told, which can be heard, but also seen. Angélique knows how to make thousands of people dance, Alexandre is more accustomed to philharmonies where the public rarely dances, but both of them love the stage, the challenges, the surprises. By tracking down the words of love, they speak of what unites them, they speak of themselves, they tell a story as old as the world and always new.
